Zhang Chuanjiang Makes Inspection Tours of China Datang’s Projects in Indonesia and Laos
Zhang Chuanjiang, President of China Datang, went on inspection tours to Indonesia and Laos from October 15 to 20. During his inspections, he met with Darmawan Prasodjo, President of PLN, and made inspection tours to PT Datang DSSP Power Indonesia (DDPI) and PT Meulaboh Power Generation (Meulaboh Company) in Indonesia, and the Pak Beng Hydropower Project ( Pak Beng Project) in Laos.

During his meeting with Darmawan Prasodjo, President of PLN, on October 15 in Jakarta, Indonesia, Zhang had in-depth discussions with him on enhancing strategic cooperation in the green and low-carbon energy sector to support the clean development of Indonesia's energy industry.
Zhang expressed his appreciation to PLN for supporting China Datang's business in Indonesia. He highlighted the strong partnership between China Datang and PLN, both being large state-owned power companies from China and Indonesia. Currently, the Indonesian government is optimizing its energy structure by increasing renewable energy sources, he said, adding that China Datang, as an investor in the power sector, hopes to further enhance its collaboration with PLN, in promoting green energy transformation, carbon peaking, and carbon neutrality, to support Indonesia's economic growth and improve the quality of life for its people.
For Darmawan’s part, he acknowledged China Datang's advanced technology and extensive management experience in areas such as energy efficiency, emission reduction, and energy transition. He expressed admiration for the group’s achievements and highlighted the shared vision and vast potential for cooperation in the development of new energy sources.
Efforts should be made to deepen strategic and practical cooperation between the two companies, explore new models of diversified cooperation for new opportunities, and leverage respective strengths to achieve tangible results in Indonesia's energy structure transformation and carbon reduction goals, the president said.
An inspection tour to PT Datang DSSP Power Indonesia (DDPI)
Zhang made an inspection tour to DDPI on the same day, and had discussions with both local and international employees. He affirmed the achievements of DDPI over the past four years, especially progress made in safety production, business operations, environmental protection, and social responsibility. He expressed gratitude to Sinar Mas for its strong support and the hard work of both Indonesian and Chinese employees. Noting that DDPI has set a benchmark for China Datang's overseas development and integration, he encouraged everyone to maintain their enterprising spirit to continuously build a model enterprise for the group’s international expansion.
In the meeting, Zhang outlined four specific work requirements.
Legal Compliance and Cultural Integration: Emphasizing the importance of adhering to local laws and regulations, he urged the team to enhance management standardization, and promote cultural integration between Chinese and foreign employees to ensure orderly governance.
Safety Production and Operational Management: He called for maintaining equipment in good condition, prioritizing maintenance and inspection, and adopting advanced practices from China Datang to ensure stable production operations.
Green Development Transformation: He stressed leveraging existing projects to promote renewable energy initiatives and collaborating with partners to achieve a sustainable energy transformation.
Team Building: He emphasized the importance of developing top talent, enhancing teamwork and cultural exchange, and establishing a highly efficient and professional international talent team.
An inspection tour to PT Meulaboh Power Generation (Meulaboh Company)
From October 16 to 17, Zhang Chuanjiang visited Meulaboh Company, conducting on-site inspections of key areas including control room, boiler room, coal quality testing lab, and seawater intake facilities. He gained a detailed understanding of safety production, economic operations, coal quality supervision, and water intake assurance, while visiting the employees.
During the discussion session, he listened to reports from Meulaboh Company and the Indoensia Represnetative Office on safety production, compliance operations, training programs for Chinese and Indonesian employees, and project development.
As for the company’s further development, Zhang attached importance to the following issues.
Safety Production: refining safety production systems, regulations, operational mechanisms, and technical standards, while ensuring high-quality maintenance work.
Efficient financial management: conducting thorough operational analysis, and improving operating profit.
Risk management: ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, managing operational risks, and promoting ethical conduct.
Local development: strengthen training, developing career paths for employees, and building a global talent pool.
Enterprise culture: promoting cultural integration , and striving to become a benchmark overseas project.
An inspection tour to Pak Beng Hydropower Project
From October 19 to 20, Zhang Chuanjiang conducted an on-site investigation of the construction preparation work for the Pak Beng Project in Laos. Along the Mekong River, he inspected the geological conditions, hydrological monitoring, dam site foundation, material yard planning, construction layout, and schedule of the Project . He listened to reports from Pak Beng Power Co., Ltd., regarding the progress of construction preparations, resettlement and environmental protection measures, and gained a detailed understanding of the key challenges encountered during project advancement.
During the inspection, Zhang visited the village of Ban Luangtong in the Pak Beng project reservoir area as well as the villagers in the resettlement area. He urged the Pak Beng Company to cooperate with the Lao government in ensuring proper resettlement and environmental protection, aiming to make the Project a model of cooperation between China and Laos.
For the project’s development in the next phase, Zhang proposed four suggestions.
We should strengthen systematic planning, optimize the project timeline, and ensure effective construction organization, striving to achieve early power generation in line with the "Four Excellence Project" standards.
We should learn from advanced concepts and experiences both domestically and internationally, enhance innovation in concepts, management, technology, and culture, and create a flagship project for the BRI.
We should ensure the smooth resettlement of villagers in the reservoir area, protect the local ecology, fulfill social responsibilities, effectively promote local economic development and improve people's livelihoods, while shaping the Datang brand image.
We should adopt multiple measures to deepen our engagement in the clean energy market in Laos, accelerate the implementation of key projects, and achieve sustainable development for Datang in Laos.
Other executives from relevant departments of China Datang and China Datang Overseas Investment Co., Ltd. also participated in the above-mentioned inspections.
